What is your favourite Christmas piece to perform?
-
Another vote for Anderson's "A Christmas Festival" from me. I first met it in 1970 in a city wide public schools band in Edmonton. I had been playing flute for three years at that time, and the repetitive and fast figures in the flute accompaniment to O Come All Ye Faithful seemed impossibly difficult. Anyway, it made quite an impression on me, so I'll choose that in honour of playing it most of the past 50 years.

@gordon
It's a toss up!
I have played "A Festive Fanfare for Christmas" by John Wasson previously with RHLI. Wicked to play (the runs!!!) but satisfying when you successfully perform it!
I performed "Minor Alterations: Christmas Through the Looking Glass" bt David Lovrien last year with THMO. I like this piece, and the flute duet part was performed by Sarah and myself. I hope that we can perform it with BCB in the near future!
My last choice is the BCB standard by Leroy Anderson's "Christmas Festival ", which others have mentioned. -
Another for Christmas Festival. Trombone section stands up and blasts O Come All Ye Faithful for the majority of the last page, yes please.

I know I'm gonna get heck for this from some of you but I still love and will always love the original Sleigh Ride! Cowboy Christmas also became a new favourite when introduced to it 2 years back. I also really liked the God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen we did in the Take Five style last year.

@lisa-yl Sleigh ride - the Anderson one? (traditional standard)
-
@Pualanasn Thank you for sharing "Minor Alterations:..." I really enjoyed listening to it, and I do hope that is a piece that the Program Committee will select to go in the BCB's 2021 Christmas Concert.

Another vote for Christmas Festival. I has almost everything in it and you hardly need to play anything else!
-
@shewis yep Leroy Anderson
-
@lisa-yl I like Sleigh Ride a lot too.
-
@Kamara The suggestion has been noted. I might even have a line on borrowing it!!
-
@Kamara @Pualanasn @joanner I think I heard Hamilton Concert Band play "Minor Alterations" last year, and I found it interesting.
Thanks to @wjerome for his comments, otherwise one might think that nobody but the people on the executive have opinions on this question!

P.S. I know there are people in this band who really don't like CHristmas Festival...
