What makes a piece unfun to play?

@gordon A piece where my part is too difficult to ever play well at tempo. Many orchestral arrangements transcribed for band come to mind. A clarinet is not a violin.
-
Flex band/Flex score/Flex... anything flex. Awful. Pass.
-
@gordon A piece that is too technically virtuosic / performed at TOO FAST a tempo that ends up depriving one of the opportunity to inherently feels how the music moves one to tastefully/artistically express it without inhibition, and with conviction.

Super slow ballads.....zzzz. Anything where I rest for so long I could take a nap. Pieces are that not challenging to the point of boredom.
-
@gordon I have to agree with Dan - Flex Band arrangements. Also, anything below our grade level - although there are some nice grade 3 pieces which we can sight read, I like music which challenges players.

Anything that is beyond the capability of a group that is made up mostly of hobby musicians to play flawlessly. We will never all get it right at the same time. Another peeve is ridiculous key signatures. I realize I do not have any music education beyond experience but by the time I figure what the heck C flat is it is too late!
