@gordon One of my favourite authors is Mitch Albom. For summer reading, I would recommend his book The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto
On the inside of the jacket cover, it states: Mitch Albom's epic new novel, the voice of Music narrates the tale of its most beloved disciple, Frankie Presto, a Spanish war orphan raised by a blind music teacher. At nine years old, Frankie is sent to America in the bottom of a boat. His only possession is an old guitar and six magical strings.
Back of the book: "I am Music. And I have come for the soul of Frankie Presto...."
When I started reading the book, I did not want to put it down until the end.

Quirky at it may seem, I grew up watching BBC's television series "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams (as well as Benny Hill, Dr. Who and Monty Python's Flying Circus...). I love this series, and have downloaded the audiobooks and bought the DVD of the complete original BBC TV shows.

This might hit too close to home for some but The Stand by Stephen King. A great read about people surviving a deadly virus and rebuilding the world!

@Pualanasn -I'm a huge HHGTTG fan! For anyone with an interest in ecology or biology, Hitchhiker's author Douglas Adams co-wrote a great book called Last Chance to See about endangered species.
My recommendations would be Where the Crawdads Sing and All the Light We Cannot See for anyone else who likes historical fiction and wants something a little deeper than the typical summer novels. -
I would suggest two books: Luke and Acts. They tell the story of how Christianity started. They were written for a person who wanted to know about the new movement sweeping the Middle East and Europe. Lots of action.

@gordon I love Wooster and Jeeves! I haven't tried any other Wodehouse though, couldn't get into the one other book I tried which I can't remember. Let me know if you enjoy any of his other work.

I haven't read his other writing beyond a taster chapter from Leave it to Psmith, which was OK, but didn't inspire me to put down the Jeeves and pick up the Blandings Castle series. Besides, I've got a lot more Woostering to do first. @lisa-yl
