I really want to play Commando March by Samuel Barber. He is a great composer and it is a unique piece because it does the unexpected (like a commando). Wonderful tune.

Just one? how about two? Mars, by Holst, and the overture to De Vliegende Hollander (The Flying Dutchman), by Wagner. Epic brass. Seriously, EPIC!!!!

            • Summer - Joe Hisaishi - I don't believe there's a concert band arrangement yet but it's a beautiful and upbeat melody.
            • A James Bond Medley or separate pieces preferably as a themed concert.
            • Semper Fidelis again because I like marches too @gordon 😆.
            • This is for @julian and his love of BSB - I Want It That Way - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLzp9aK0I3Q - it's for marching band so clearly all we need is to double our percussion section 😐 . How about a whole 90's themed concert :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_smiling_eyes:

I literally just searched "New Concert Band Music." I like "The Greatest Showman" arranged by Paul Murtha. I think there is something interesting for a number of different sections. 7 minutes or so. Otherwise there is a similar length arrangement of "Amazing Grace"--not as much for trumpets as I would prefer, but hey.

@gordon I thought it was the free medication samples and cute baby.
@lloydr I wonder if they have arrangements of separate songs - having a vocalist for some of the pieces would be popular (although they would need to be quite powerful and mic'd) - or we could do it as a sing-a-long! I see on brief search there is a "This Is Me" and "Never Enough" arrangements (but they sounds a bit simple and too easy for us , also sounds like 15-20 people playing total).

William Byrd Suite by Gordon Jacob. A long time favourite of mine. It has 6 unique movements of varying character (including a march @gordon) written for wind band by one of the genre's first champions. I think it sounds distinctly British and I often hum the tunes. The Eastman Wind Ensemble has a good recording of it on YouTube if you haven't heard it.

Well @Dannomyte, it was written by a Gordon, so of course it would have a march. 😉

                        Okay...
I would really like to sink my teeth into this one!
                        I love this arrangement...
Featuring the saxophone section, a cool trumpet solo, wicked drumming, and a rocking trombone melody....this is would be popular with our audience.
It's a big band piece (those who also grew up under Don Allan will know why I like this) and makes you want to get up to dance!
Yes ... BCB's version of Swing Kids

I nominate "Charge of the Light Brigade" and "Victory at Sea" because both paint vivid pictures and have rich chords. Maybe it is my military days too. They would do well around Nov 11th.

Almost any Broadway show. They are always melodic, feature different sections of the band and usually have solos for varying instruments as well. We could make a whole concert out of a collection of them.

@wjerome Ah, I agree... the only downside, is that arrangements of an entire piece from a musical are far and few between. The arrangements are predominately medleys.

@julian Actualy I only meant the "overtures" as they contain much of the familiar stuff to us and our audience. Our library has quite a collection of these.

Those both help @lisa-yl, but it's really the marches.
